A dining table is one of the most important assets in your house because it is the central place for a large family reunion, for a formal party, or just for you and the others close to you when you want to celebrate something in a festive manner.
No matter what size (small, large, extra large) and shape (round, square, rectangular, etc) you want for your dining table, you can have it. You are free to choose from a wide variety of manufacturing materials: wood (oak, cherry, pine, maple, mahogany, walnut, ash, etc), metal (aluminum, copper, iron), and laminate plastic, glass. There are so many different types of finish (buttermilk, Water-based Polyurethane, Lacquer, Natural Resin Varnish Finish, Wax Finish, Briwax) that it's up to you what color you think best suits the rest of your house interior.
Dining room tables
A dining room, no matter whether we are talking about a house or a hotel, is the room where we eat. In a house it is placed very close to the kitchen or separated from it only by folding doors, a bar or a wall arch. When castles were places to live in, not to visit like today, the dining room was called the Great Hall because it was a huge room so all the people in the castle could attend the meal. But because it was probably quite noisy and packed with people (not a good atmosphere for digestion), the nobility started separating themselves from the others in smaller rooms called “parlors”, which in time became what we call today dining rooms.
A typical American dining room has a long table surrounded by chairs. The china is stored in some pieces of furniture also located in the room. But the table is used only for festive occasions or for parties or formal meals, because normally the family eats in the kitchen.
Folding Dining room tables
A folding dining room table is your best option when your house / apartment is not big enough for you to allocate a big space for a stable one. Usually the chairs that are bought along with it can also be folded and sometimes incorporated in the table when this is packed. Such a table has a lot of advantages: it looks good and it's easy to set it up; it can be stored practically anywhere (in the closet, basement, garage) or keep it in the room as a chest (without drawers or shelves, but with a top that can support flowers for example); it's easy to maintain it; it gives you extra seating places when needed.
Round dining room table
A round dining room table has a very elegant look no matter whether it is made of wood, glass or copper. The tablecloths used for holidays or special occasions drape beautifully on a round table. Also the people sitting around it will have the chance to see everybody and of being seen by them. There is no feeling of privilege around such a table. Actually the legend says that King Arthur of Camelot, being such an honest and loyal man, wanted to show his Knights that they were all of equal importance and special to him (in these times, the King's favorite used to be placed on the King's right arm and the next privileged one on his left).
Outdoor dining table
If you have a garden in front or in the back of your house it would be a great idea to have an outdoor dining table. This should be manufactured from materials resistant to changeable weather, like plastic or copper (this doesn't rust like other metals). Or you could protect your table with a table pad. This is made of a material that is durable and humidity and heat resistant (up to 600º). The chairs for such a table can be made of plastic, steel, birch, rattan or teak. Teak is a wood that is easily worked and a teak dining table is meant to better resist the weather's changes.
