Kitchen tables are at the core of most of our lives. One of our basic needs is to eat. That's why the place where the food is prepared to satisfy this need is very important to most of us. The kitchen is also the place where all members of the family gather together for breakfast and dinner; the kids come to talk to their mums after school, and where we invite our closest friends to drink a cup of coffee. So we are not indifferent to the way this room is furnished or how comfortable and practical it is.
The table is the key element of the kitchen. If it is well chosen it will give the room style and coziness. It’s size will depend on the number of family members. In the past, the kitchen tables were made only of wood, but today we use also metal, plastic and glass to manufacture them. Normally they are composed only from a top and legs. But there are some types of kitchen tables that look like benches or others that have a massive look, a lot of drawers and storage cabinets (for example Island kitchen tables).
A practical solution - a small kitchen table
If we don't have enough space in the kitchen, we can always choose a folding kitchen table (it can be easily packed and stored anywhere; it can have a wood or stainless steel frame and a solid hardwood top and shelves). When a folding table is not convenient, but you still have a small kitchen room to deal with, there is always the option of picking out a small kitchen table. They are sometimes provided with an extra shelf, can be very easily used in any other room and transformed into a coffee table, an accent piece or a convenient bedside table to store small items.
Copper kitchen table
Copper kitchen tables are very stylish and immediately remarked on by others. This type of table usually has no shelves and the copper can be combined with wood, bronze, iron or even glass. Copper is a wonderful material to manufacture tables and other kitchen accessories (cutlery, pans, cookware measuring sets, bowls etc.) because it presents a lot of advantages: it won't rust like iron, it is highly malleable (can be easily bent and shaped), it's not so expensive and it is very attractive (being one of the metals which are colored in their pure form).
If we care for tradition as much as for elegance the best choice would be a kitchen table with a buttermilk finish. Painted printed foils will be applied to the core of the table.
Always a good acquisition - a retro kitchen table
The retro kitchen table was very fashionable back in the 40’s, 50’s. But if we do prefer the retro style we can always equip our kitchen with such a table or, why not the whole retro kitchen furniture? It will bring along a fresh, colorful and familiar air to your kitchen. If the furniture has an “old” look, it doesn't necessarily mean it is not functional and practical. Today the retro furniture is upgraded to meet all the new requirements in functionality and safety, whilst keeping it’s unique look. For example, the table tops receive a solid 3" aluminum band trim on the edges and they are covered with Formica laminates, in various colors.
Choose a log cabin style for your kitchen
In the 70’s, the log cabin style was very popular. The main manufacturing principles consist of not using nails and using wood that was not shaped by hewing or sawing. This style came from Sweden and reached America around 1700. If you enjoy the rustic style, than a wood table in log cabin style is exactly what you need for your kitchen.
When buying a kitchen table we have to consider how many people will be eating daily around it, how much space we have for it in the kitchen and how well suited it will be to the rest of the kitchen furniture. And the perfect table will be the one that suits best your budget and your sense of style.
