Which vanity table is right for you?

There are probably very few women who don't use make up. No matter if it is for a party or a daily routine, they dress and  then, most of the time use make up. In the coziness of their home, a vanity table is just the place to do that!

A vanity table, or simply vanity, is a piece or furniture consisting of a low table with a simple mirror (or a mirror made of three parts) and a chair (a bench or a stool). The vanity benches /stools can be situated at the foot of the bed or underneath the vanity table. Usually, in a house, the vanity tables are located in the bedroom or in the bathroom. They are a compulsory piece of furniture for every actor's dressing room, in the wings at a show, and backstage at every cat walk.

Vanity makeup table

Because one of the main tasks for these kind of tables is to help the person putting on the make up, styling their hair or simply preparing for the day, they are frequently called vanity makeup tables or vanity dressing tables. The common sizes are 18-36" wide, 14 -21" long and 17 -50" high. The table consists of a smooth flat top, usually supported by three or four vertical legs, a mirror and a chair. The table can be made of oak, mahogany, pine, cherry etc. and it may have a variety of finishes: laminate, lacquer, buttermilk, walnut, Celadon, etc. The mirror can be any size,, can be round or oval, fixed or flip top, made of one or three fold pieces (for a triple view) with or without a wooden frame. The vanity chair is the perfect complement to the vanity table. It can be a small bench or a stool that has three/four legs with a bottom that is either a fully upholstered seat or polyurethane filled cushion, covered in beige cotton/polyester vinyl fabric.

Vanity makeup tables should have clear space below without complicated hampering or stretcher. Normally they have pull out drawers underneath the table's top, or attached to the right or left legs (like a small cabinet). The drawers are more than welcome in this kind of furniture because they are perfect for storing cosmetics, napkins, jewellery and other keepsakes. They shouldn't be added at the expense of comfort because you can always use an auxiliary small chest with drawers as separate piece of furniture placed beside the vanity makeup table.

A very elegant dressing vanity table is the white vanity table. The finish is white, while the materials used for manufacturing vary from iron to wood. When made of metal, the top can be manufactured from glass, stone or marble. A white vanity table made of metal is more often found in the bathroom than in a bedroom.

Bathroom vanity tables can also include neon lights and sinks.

Antique vanity table

There are many types of vanity tables, from contemporary and modern to classic and traditional or rustic styles. But the one vanity table that is always in fashion, that will always add a touch of style to your bedroom is the antique vanity table. They are manufactured according to the era they belong to: Jacobean (1600-1690), Early American (1640-1700), Queen Anne (1700-1755), Colonial (1700-1780), Pennsylvanian Dutch (1720-1830), Chippendale (1750-1780), Federal (1780-1820), American Empire (1800-1840), Victorian (1840-1910), Arts and Craft and Art Nouveau (1890-1910).

Usually they are made of hardwood (oak, mahogany, cherry, maple) with a marble or wooden top. Some of the antique tables are actually a cabinet with pool drawers (with or without legs) and not a table, which is not very convenient because you have no space to place your legs and the distance between the mirror and the body is increased. The mirror is fixed or three folded and is usually framed.

An antique vanity table has not only character and beauty, but the durability of the wood ensures that it remains as solid as the day it was manufactured.

The child's vanity table

Not only grown up women, but little girls too may have a vanity table. The child's vanity tables are smaller sizes; are in pretty pastels colors, adorned with painted flowers and hearts; feature a fixed or a lift up mirror and may have two or more drawers and plenty of storage under the mirror or underneath the table's top.
When buying a vanity table you'll have to decide upon: where will you place it (bathroom or bedroom); what kind of mirror would suit you best (fixed or lift up, in one or three folding pieces); how much storage space do you need; what kind of material will better suit your interior and how much money are you willing to pay for it. After you've decided on these features, all you have to do is find the perfect one and enjoy it.
